Storytelling & Messaging

Specificity rules. If you can’t get to the exact details, your audience will not fully understand you or worse, not give you the desired results you seek. CommCore asks the tough questions in our workshops to help you arrive at ways to tell your story with the passion and specificity to guarantee that you make a true connection with your target audiences.

Storytelling is as old as language itself. It is a part of who we are dating back to when we dwelled in caves. The human brain reacts differently to stories than it does to data. Our own research, back by scientific studies, clearly displays that listening to presentations with stories activates more centers of the brain associated with acceptance and retention than presentations without them.

We can help you tell your story.

Tips For Communicating The Message

1. Know Your Audience. An effective presentation always answers the most basic needs of your audience: So What? Who Cares? & What’s In It For Me? Anything in your presentation that doesn’t answer these questions does not belong in your presentation.

2. A Memorable Message has three elements to it:

• The bottom line: The one most important message that you want your audience to remember.

• Proof: Facts and anecdotal information such as improved technology that support the bottom-line.

• The Story: An example from your experience that tells the audience why they should care about this information.

3. Less is More. Of the 10% the audience will remember a week after your presentation, 55% is how you look, 38% is how you sound and only 7% is content.

4. The Importance of You. If you are a good presenter, your audience will pay attention to
the information. If you are a poor presenter, your audience will pay attention to you. Your energy translates as belief and conviction. Your focus in the present, and upon what you are currently saying, gives you control and gives the presentation meaning.

5. Visuals. Visuals should be graphic representations of your message, not your notes. Set up the visual so that the audience anticipates what is coming. When the visual comes up, pause to let the audience see what is up there, then, bring the focus back to you.
